Wild Turkeys, 30" x 20" Oil on Board
A trio of southern longbeards steps out from beneath the shadows of a massive oak tree overtaken by Spanish moss. Their vivid heads and iridescent feathers glow against the lush springtime setting of the Lowcountry. They sport long dark spurs, commonly seen across the Deep South, especially in areas with soft, wet soil. Perhaps they’re all headed for the lone hen yelping in the distance, or maybe they are sneaking into their favorite pasture for a late afternoon feeding session before fly-up. Whatever the case, these bachelor toms call a very special place home, and this scene is one that turkey hunters from all over the country long to see one day.
