White-tailed Deer, 30" x 20" Oil on Canvas

If you’re a deer hunter, chances are you have fond memories of a river bottom. They’re not only scenic but also provide two of the most basic needs of whitetails: water and cover. Winding rivers provide the edge and cover that whitetails love, and their muddy banks are often pounded with deer tracks, leaving visual evidence of this fact. In this original oil painting, a whitetail buck and doe dash across the shallows of a river, splashing water and leaving a rippled wake behind them as they head for the security and cover of their favorite river bottom.

I painted this piece for the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association as their 2019 Print of the Year. If you happen to live up north, check out one of their local events and support them by taking home a limited edition print of “River Runners.”
