Description
I hunted rabbits in the Midwest when I was a kid, but rarely did we have good dogs. Sometimes a buddy or a neighbor would have a solo beagle that could work. Often times we walked brush hedgerows and tried to kick them out on our own. When I moved to the South, I learned there was a much more fine art to rabbit hunting that I’d known. When I moved to the mountains of Western Carolina, I saw it at a whole new level. Guys would accumulate a whole pack of beagles, taking them out to run the Christmas tree fields and briar patches as often as possible. It’s a lot of fun, and a great way to get the kids outdoors as well. So for SEWE 2023, I painted this beagle in hot pursuit of a cottontail in a scene that could very well be right out the back door of my studio, and it sold before the show even opened.
